Tips on How to Shorten Businesses, Organizations etc. Names
At your request, we present the main name and other word shortening rules and examples to help you abbreviating sender’s and recipient’s names in the SEPA instruction fields:
- Names of states, organizations, institutions, etc., consisting of more than one word, are abbreviated by first letters of all the words (except for dependent words) in capitals, e.g.:
- Limited Liability Company: AB
- United Nations: JT
- Land Protection Department: KAD
- Academy of Science: MA
No period is put after the letters or in the end of abbreviation!
- Sometimes separate capitals are used for compound word components, e.g.:
- Hydro Power Plant:HE
- Ultra short waves: UTB
- Word can be abbreviated by two capitals, e.g.:
- Lithuanian Standard:LST
- Lithuanian Standard:LST
- First syllable is written, more rarely two first syllables and all the consonants before vowel of the next syllable are written, e.g.:
- alley: al.
- county: apskr.
- ministry: m-ja
Lithuanian Namesand Legal Statuses
The Republic of Lithuania: LR. This abbreviation is written also before names of the bodies concerned, e.g.: Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania: LR Ministry of Finance.
